We arrived in Hermosa beach and straight away, i thought the place was awesome. Each main beach in Southern California is centred with a pier, which is like a jetty but with heaps of stuff on it at the start...like restaurants, bars, shops etc etc. Our hostel was Right on the pier which of course is right on the beach. it was great and there was so much atmosphere and character around it, and the area was extremely safe....for once, no dodginess about it! sooo...we decided we wanted to stay longer than our planned 3 days so we cancelled a few things and made it into a week. We did soooo much in this week too. First day, we went to Disney land...we caught public transport expecting about an hour to an hour and a half but it turned out to taker about 2 1/2 hrs just to get there!!!! on buses! buses!!!! arghhhh when we got there Disneyland was awesome but waiting times in most lines for rides was about 45 mins to an hours!!! craaazy. so we only got to go on about 5 rides-the one i liked the most was indiana jones. all the rides were visually stunning but justy not scarey as they are basically for kids. the highlight of the day was meeting mickey mouse!!! yay
the next day we spent doing the beach thing. i was hoping for a surf at huntingon beach-surf city as its famously known but there was no swell AT ALL! so we had an awesome day anyway looking at the surf museum there, shopping, looking at beach cruiser bikes (which we cant get but want soooo badly!) and we also hung out on the beach. it was a good day and i loved huntington beach. it was really classy beach town and no homeless drop kick people trying to get money from you.
the next day we spent around Hermosa beach for a bit then decided to change hostels and go to Hollywood. We found out it was another 2 and a bit hours on public transport (and we have HEAPS OF LUGGAGE!!! from shopping too much-whoops) so we didnt want public transport. we decided to book into a Hollywood tour that picked us up from our hotel and dropped us off at the new one. this way we saw hollywood a bit and got transport from the coast to hollywood.
we got to see the sights such as Rodeo drive, hollywood blvd, the stars on the blvd the hollywood farmers market and chinese theatres. i didnt think too much of the walk of fame, its basically a few hand prints in ugly looking concrete but interesting to see all the same i suppose since its so famous.
the next day we went to universal studios which was cool. i loved it and they have this amazing new ride based on the Simpsons. it is the most visually stunning ride i have seen. not really that scarey or thrilling but really really fun and amazing....we got a tour of the universal studios but didnt see any famous people...well maybe we did. they would be hard to recognise.
the next day beth went shopping and since i was already shopped out and not that itnerested in shops like those on rodeo drive and melrose ave i went to a thrill park called six flags magic mountain. it was awesome! i rode over 15 rollercoasters and they were all different to each other. at the park is the tallest rollercoaster in the world, the fastest rollercoaster in the world, the scariest in the world and the oldest in the world...oh and the first one built in the world! haha pretty fun. there was one that literally felt like u were flying because of how u were strapped in...its called tatsu and the best ride i have ever been on,. there is one called X2 which is for sure the most intesnse and scariest ride i have been on. it made me shake with adrenalin after i got off!
anyway i better go. South California has been Awesome and now i am off to New york to finish off the trip!
