Since the travel from Koh Phangan to Phuket was such a grind, and our train from Bangkok to Surat Thani was equally bad or worse, we decided to fly from Phuket to Chiang Mai as we did the math and we only spent about 20 dollars more than if we would have taken the two full days to get there by bus and train. Our first day here we went to the Tiger Kingdom and got to sit with and lay with tigers for pictures, and then watch them play in the water and with eachother. Very amazing experience. On the bus ride to the kingdom we met five people from England, 3 girls and 2 boys, and quickly became friends with them. We ended up doing a jungle trek with them the next day that included riding elephants for almost an hour, visiting a very cool bat cave, staying overnight in a village up in the mountains surrounded by farmland, swimming in a waterfall and bamboo rafting down a river. All in all a very cool experience. We didn't get back until 5 pm the next day so we all just had naps and then went out for dinner together and then to a bar. We plan to meet up with the guys maybe in Laos and definitely in Cambodia so that should be awesome. I'm currently sitting in a mini-bus on my way to Pai, which is a small town three hours west of Chiang Mai. Apparently it's a much more relaxed place so we're looking forward to settling down here for a few days.
EDIT: on our way from Pai to Bangkok we stopped off in Chiang Mai for 3 more nights, and went to the night market as well as Wat Doi Sutep which is a giant temple type thing on the top of a mountain that overlooks the entire city of Chiang Mai.
