Back in la laguna
Catarina, Nicaragua
One smiling baby and two exhausted but excited parents arrived in the laguna last night. The air was thick with heat and humidity and the night alive with the sounds of the jungle, but we finally fell asleep....
Only to be woken a few hours later by a rowdy conversation between the neighbourhood dogs.
It always feels strange arriving in a place at night, even a place you know well. But the light of morning came and with it many familiar sights, faces, and sounds. The bus for Masaya honking its departure at 6:30am. The sound of neighbours sweeping their yards. The monkeys howling as the sun rises over the crater's edge. Roosters cocka-doodle-dooing. People yelling, radios blaring, babies crying. You never feel alone here.
By 8:30am we had been given breakfast by friends at the pulperia and Rose had been passed around by many new faces. She was all smiles.
We swam in the dark turquoise water of the laguna. We can hardly believe we are here. It's good to be back.
