Free tours by foot, what can I say about this wonderful tour? Courtney our tour guide was so knowledgeable and funny and full of great energy. Her tour well exceeded my expectations. She gave us some wonderful history of Washington square, and off to Greenwich village we went to our first food tasting. First stop a falafel shop called "Mamoun's Falafel Restaurant". Now, at first I was hesitant to try this menu selection, but I said to myself, your in New York, expand your palette. So I did, and have to say they are not bad if your into a chickpea ball fried in some type of batter. Since I eat everything plain, I opted to not dip mine in hot sauce. Rich however did, and I think he paid dearly for it, I was rushing to get water for him. Next stop on the tour was a pizza place called "Artichoke". The slices are plentiful and could be shared among two people. This too was my first experience with a different type of pizza. It was good, but way to big for me to finish. When our tour guide said we had one last food stop, I couldn't imagine trying to eat or try another bite of something else. But we forged on through the streets of Greenwich Village and listened to Courtney explain the Dutch history through Washington Square and the scene of how Washington square was during the 60's and 70's. We strolled through some of the NYC university buildings and as we did there were many students in their caps and gowns taking pictures. We came across the very building Jimmy Hendrix performed it was called the "Cafe Wha?" We stopped for a picture opportunity and on the way we went as we sat at our second food stop I wandered next door to find "The Comedy Cellar" I had read many reviews about this place. The Comedy Cellar was home to many stand up comedians in the beginning of their careers. Celebrities such as Dave Chappell, Jerry Seinfeld, Bill Cosby just to name a few. Boy we wish we could have had time to take in a a show. Hopefully on our next visit. Walking along the tour Courtney showed us many historical landmarks and places of interest. As we came across one neighborhood we were surprised to turn the corner and see the roof had collapsed. Fire Engines raced to the scene and we were right in the middle being tourists snapping pictures. It felt like you were in the middle of a movie scene. Luckily, no one was injured as the area was full of boutique shopping. We scurried along to our last food destination "Bleecker Street Pizza" but were still too full to eat. So we parted ways with our guide as we had tickets to the David Letterman Show.
