Our first trek and it´s freaken killed us.
There were 8 of us and 2 tour guides who spoke no English at all. Thank god for Alena, Pablo and Kevin for been very great with Spanish or else I´m sure we would have had a very different experience.
Day 1 after a 2 hour drive to a 4wd track which was extremely muddy and rough we finally make it to the start of the trek. We have a quick lunch and meet our guides then we head off walking for 3 hours crossing rivers and climbing up and up and up mountains. It was a killer so hot and hard with all the up hill. We stopped at a really nice pool in the river and had a quick swim to cool off. We got a bit of afternoon rain which was nice but then the path was slippery I had a few slips but Junior was cruising. Had a great night sleep in the hammocks and fantastic dinner thanks to our great guides.
Day 2 After checking out our mossie bites We set off on a 4 hour trek and today was a more down hill which I hated cause it had rained so much over night and it was so rocky. We finally made it to the camp thank god alive and chilled out till dinner. We saw some great wildlife, some bats, a butterfly with 89 clearly printed on it´s wings, and a little bug which was flashing a bright green light. It was like nothing I have ever seen before really beautiful. Learnt to play some isreali card game which was fun.
Day 3 We had a 4.5 hour trek today and 4 massive river crossings which were the end of me. I was sick and came down with a 24 hour bug and spent all the time in a hammock/bed with a mozzi net as they were so bad up there and Ím sill covered.
Day 4 Was the walk to the Lost City I spent that time in bed but Junior did it and took the photos for me. He said it was so hard to do and when he got back he was shaking and so exhausted. This afternoon we also had to walk back to the next camp so another 4ish hours. It was hard work and it was pissing down with rain the whole time we were walking. Everything was wet and we had massive river crossings. One crossing it was so rough that we had to go across in a man made cage flying fox thing kinda crazy but awesome fun. Slept very well this night knowing that we had a 6 hour trek in the morning.
Day 5 Feeling not to bad and made it to the first stop totally b*****ed but then still had 3 hours to go but it was down hill so it was sweet we ran down the hill. We got back to the small town they fed us and back in the 4wd for the 3 hour drive back to Santa Marta. Few difficulties on the way home, firstly the other tour group truck got stuck in the mud so another few trucks were trying to pull it out for an hour and then when we got to Santa Marta all the roads were flooded and rivers were flowing through the town. The guys had to get out the 4wd in the bare feet and walk to there hostel keeping in mind that the water is not only water, its all sewerage. Not nice at all. Funny for us though in the car taking photos of them.
We made it back to Taganga wet smelly and very tied. Spent the next 2 days in Taganga recovering down at the beach swimming in the caribbean and drinking beers, perfect!
