Rosa dos Ventos- the Wind Rose
This is what I found online: An impressive, yet puzzling sight within the fort, is the 43m-diameter wind compass, also known as a “wind rose”. Made from pebbles, it was uncovered in 1919 and is unique as it has 40 segments (probably an error of the 20th-century restorers) when, normally, they were divided into 32 segments. Even though the fort was built as a navigation school by Henry the Navigator, it is thought not to date back to his time.
