Gili's Day 1
So our early night turned into a 3am stagger to bed after we were persuaded by the bright Kuta lights & alcohol offers! Needless to say the journey to the Islands was not a pleasant one! A 2hr sweaty mini-bus ride, followed by an equally painful 1 1/2hr boat ride eventually brought us to paradise!! We clambered off the boat only for Xtina to say "is my big bag on here...I don't remember putting it on"...
We found a 'bungalow', got our swimmers on & hit the beach! A wonderful meal overlooking the sea with breath-taking views & then ready for bed!!
Gili's Day 2
A late wake up, (apart from the 6.20am call to prayer) brunch then we headed to the other end of the island for working on our tans! The turquoise water enticed us in every 20mins once we could no longer stand the heat! We decided to take a walk along the water's edge to see what else the island had to offer! Jo soon regretted this decision as the combination of a wet bikini & damp thighs soon resulted in a lot of pain and a walk like John Wayne :(
Another lovely meal & a few sociable drinks & we met Kuri (Xtina: "as in chicken curry") an Indian music teacher for slum kids! Being on the Gili's was an expensive holiday for him, so budget drinking was essential! 2jugs of 'local' rum & a splash of coke we found ourselves at a beach bar heated by a sand fire-pit! Street found on the way home ensured we didn't go hungry before bed!!
Gili's Day 3
The 6.20am call to prayer ensured Our beauty-sleep was disturbed, but thankfully not for too long! Another late wake up, brunch then beach! Jo, unable to cope with the awful combo of rum hangover & heat, hired snorkels & fins to explore what lay beneath! Xtina in the meantime worked on her patch-work quilt (aka matching up her tan lines!) A good time was spent following fish of amazing shapes, sizes & colours around the sea-bed! This was of course accompanied by the call to prayer, still heard underwater!
Jo wondered round the island to watch the sun go down, whilst Xtina enjoyed the tranquility of being on paradise with her book & a Bintang!
Our new love for the street food at approx £1 a dish found us dining in style! This was followed by a night at the 'cinema' where we watched Bridesmaids!
Gili's Day 3
Our final day on the island so we maximised our tanning time!! It was hard to commit due to the sheer heat of the sun, however the sea once again became our haven! Another beautiful day in paradise!
A drink as the sun went down, more street food, then more beer with some new friends!! A lovely way to finish our time here!
