London, UK
First thought! British Airways ROCKS! We departed Toronto Pearson 5 minutes early and took off immediately. We took off on a southern departure and then turned left of Lake Ontario. We followed Lake Ontario and passed just to the south of Ottawa and then Montreal. I stated watching INKHEART on the flight before dinner. THe entertainment system onboard the 747-400 was awsome. As we were 100 km north of PEI they stated serving dinner. I had a totellini pasta with Grilled Vegetables with chardonnay and a pastry for desert. I finished dinner and the movie as we were passing over Cornerbrook Newfoundland. We exited North America south of Gander Newfoundland. Then which what i thoight was odd, and no reason was given, we were instructed to shut our window shades while were were over the atlantic. I then fell asleep and woke up 3000 miles later over southern Ireland. We over Cork Ireland for our appraoch into London's Heathrow Airport. We were held in a holding pattern for about 30 mins and then we had a smooth landing. We disembarked and then i had to connect to my amsterdam flight. 3 hour layover, ugh. I then boarded a Airbus 319 for a 45 minute flight to Amsterdam. Even on a 45 minutes flight, i was server juice and a turkey and cheese wrap. They sure no how to treat customers.
I disembarked the flight and went though customs. Was a breeze, no questons at all, they just handed my passport back and said something in Dutch and smiled. And i was on my way. I then purchased my train ticket and boarded a very cool electric train to what i thought was Amsterdam Central. I ended up in ZUIT, whereever that is. Got off and got on another train called the SPRINTER and got me into Amsterdam. I purchased a 72 hour transit pass and got on my tram to my hotel. Checked into the hotel and got a room facing the square on the 5th floor. Nice room, but very modern like IKEA. Only one statoin in English, which was playing the Simpsons. Now it was time to find something to eat, and do you think i could find someone that spoke english? NO, i finally eneded up in Macdonalds and had to point to bottle of water and a quarter pounder. Which costs 5.35 Euros. I took my food and went back to the hotel for some sleep and a shower. I then woke up at 1030 and went out to a bar in the square for a beer, I was sitting next to a guy who was rolling a joint on the coutner. Its just blows my mind. I did some walking around and then went back to the hotel to catch up on emails and phone calls. Tomorrows another day. Hopefully i won't be as lonely.
