We are probably about a month behind on our blog now, and there is so much to say! We started our southern cross trip across south america on the 19th June and started in Lima, Peru. Not the nicest place in the world! We were really happy when we met the group as there are 7 19 yr olds, most of the ppl we have met up till now have been mostly in their mid 20s so it was a nice surprise. We also met our tour leader Manny who closely resembled a Cuban pimp but seemed friendly. First stop after Lima was Pisco, a small, very poor town that was mostly destroyed after an earthquake a few years ago. The highlight was probably trying the famous pisco sour cocktail and also eating the local dish ceviche which is raw fish marinated in lime. There wasnt really much at all to do in PIsco. Just outside Pisco we went dunebuggying and sand boarding which was great fun but very difficult and Jamess camera broke as it got dropped in the same by someone who shall remain nameless! We went straight to Nazca the next day which is famous for its mysterious nazca lines, we took a five seater aircraft for half an hour over the lines which was an amazing experience but did make us feel and bit nausious. Ruthie, the girl next to James puked! After, Nazca we travelled to Arequipa also know as the white city because the buildings are made from white volcanic stone. On the first night we went to a local nightclub where they played salsa music! James was grabbed and forced to salsa with a really old ugly peruvian woman and leila and will were taught to salsa by the local. After Arequipa we left really early in the morning to the colca canyon (deeper than the grand canyon) to see the condors soaring whilst being lifted effortlessy by the heat thermals. We waited for about half an hour for the condors and at first we thought we were going to be disappointed as we could only see them in the distance. Suddenly four massive condors souared straight above, literally only metres away from us! This definately made our early morning trip to the canyon worth it! After returning to Arequipa we flew straight to Cusco , not a pleasant experience when hungover. Cusco is a very picturesque small city about 3000m in altitude where we had time to chill out after a week of intense travelling and also let us prepare for the inca trail to machu picchu!
