Fortunately for Buddhism, it entered China at a time when central order had essentially broken down and there was no confident, unified culture to resist its inroads. By the time power was finally recentralised in 589 by the Sui Dynasty (who were replaced by the Tang almost immediately afterwards), the religion already had a centuries-long history.
