The last few days in Bolivia were spent mostly on buses and a train. We spent one day in Santa Cruz. It is a large city with relatively little tourism, but unlike most of the country it isn't in the mountains and is close to Brazil and Argentina contributing to its status as Bolivias economic capital. We saw almost no other extranjeros during hours of exploring the city. From Santa Cruz we took the overnight train to the Brazilian border. Sooo much better than riding the bus! (Especially in Bolivia where the buses are not known for their quality nor the roads for their good upkeep) We had dinner in the dining car, played cards, watched movies, read books, quite a nice ride.
Getting across the border was not what we expected. Based on the difficult visa application for Brazil we thought that entering Brazil could be a headache. So we were surprised when the only challenge was leaving Bolivia, 3 hours wait in a very slow line. But overall no bribes necessary, nothing really to worry about, just waiting. But in line we did meet a nice Dane who we ended up spending the next week with, so overall it was a success.
