Where's Suzie?
Arrived in Santiago on Saturday 4th December at around 8ish in the evening (with a stinking cold). The cab ride to Santiago Central, where my hotel is, was absolutely breathtaking. There was a beautiful sunset shining on the snow capped mountains of the Andes and all while it was around 26 degrees!
Hotel`s a bit scabby after the rather cushy set up I had in Rio but it's quite comfortable and will do for the few days I'm here.
Chile is really different to Rio. For one I stick out like a sore thumb....everyone here has that slightly peruvian look about them and there are no ethnic minorities or blonde people here (I've only spotten one). I get so many stares it's unbelievable and the men are not shy at all....making kissy noises at me as I walk by. It's a really pretty place and very clean and civilised - a total change from Rio.
My hotel is just opposite Cerro Santa Lucia which is a big rock in the middle of the city that they made into a park. I climbed to the top yesterday and took some photos of the city with the Andes in the background.
Day 17- Did a bit of sightseeing today around the main city centre. There's lots of influences here from Britain, Spain, Portugal, Peru, France and the original indigenous people from colonial times. Alot of the buildings have had to be either repaired or rebuilt though due to earthquake damage over the years and damage from the troubles in the 1970's. There's far too much here to mention in this postcard. I'll try and pinpoint a few things to try to sum it up in a future postcard so you can get a better feel for the place.
Bye for now xxx
