I love boobys!!
I have just had the most amazing week in the most amazing place - The Galapagos Islands!
I have to say that i think the Galapagos Islands has been the highlight of my RTW trip so far. It´s simply incredible. I will be doing my bit for Ecuadorian tourism by recommending everyone i know goes there to see it for themselves.
I spent a week on the Amigo boat sailing between several of the islands. We stopped at different islands every morning and afternoon and did a guided walk led by our tour guide Pedro. The animals we saw were amazing and best of all because they have never been threatened by other animals or by man they are not scared of you so you can wander along right next to them. It´s just amazing (sorry if i am overusing the word but it´s true).
My favourite animal was the blue footed boody which is a muchos cute bird with blue feet (but it didn´t have boobys that i could see so not sure why it´s called that!) We also saw and learnt a lot about sealions, land iguanas, marine iguanas, gorgeous colourful crabs, sea turtles, lava lizards, other birds such as the albatross and the galapagos penguin (which is the 3rd smallest penguin in the world and is muchos cute!)
When we were hot and exhausted after our walks we´d go snorkelling. The water was a bit cold but the snorkelling was so good that it didn´t matter. I snorkelled up close and personal with sealions, sea turtles, sharks (big and small) and penguins. As well as seeing some spectacular fish.
The Galapagos islands is simply out of this world. It´s acutally a bit like a world in itself. The experience was made even better because I met some great people on the trip and the staff of the Amigo were also great.
I took about 450 photos in a week but i´ll pick out a few of my favourites and add them to my site so you can see what i´m on about. Unfortunately, the photos don´t do the beauty of the place justice. It´s actually even nicer than in the photos.
Enjoy the photos and i´ll bore you with all my knowledge of the animals when i get back!
