Monumental Horse
By Oldenburg, who was visiting the Foundation and heard the story of the dissolving of the calvary in the early thirties. Apparently, there was one remaining horse, old, and, for some reason, those in charge chose to shoot the horse and he is buried nearby. Supposedly, his handler was so distraught that he shot himself on the grave. Oldenburg was so moved by the story that he created this piece as a tribute.
