We had heard alot about Vang Vieng as it is a big backpackers hangout. We stayed in a little guesthouse which was nice. The town itself is really small, we walked around the main area pretty quickly. There are alot of restaurants where you sit or lay on cushions, its really chilled out. Maybe because when you go to a restaurant they give you a menu and also underneath a little menu called "Happy menu" which contained teas, shakes and food containing opium, magic mushrooms or weed. I think thats why most people seemed happy and chilled out. They all had big screen tvs showing south park, family guy and friends on while you eat. We did have good food here. We done a full day tour which was good fun. We started off tubing on a river and through a cave which was different. Then we had lunch included. We then went to another cave and then on to kayaking along the river. The views were stunning. We really enjoyed until we hit some rapids and couldnt control the kayak. We capsized and Angelica and the boat went down the river. I fell under a tree branch under water. As I tried to come up the branch kept pushing me back down. Eventually i managed to pull myself up and hold on tight to the branch. If i let go the rapids would have carried me down the river. It was a scary experience and i did think i was going to drown at one point. I swallowed quite a bit of water too. I had a waterproof bag around my neck with phone and money in and my phone must have got wet as its now not working whatsover. Its a shame i have lost all my photos now but nothing i can do. In the evenings in vang Vieng most people went to 2 bars accross the river owned and run by british people. It wasnt our type of thing so we chilled in a restaurant bar chatting with the owners and had drinks there. Vang Vieng was a chilled little place heavily reliant on tourists, we had fun but too small and quiet for me.
