First full day in bogota - met a Canadian and an American girl (Ches and Julia) and went to the gold museum with them then had fruit for lunch and a guy bought us juice. I was a bit skeptical because I was going against EVERY piece of advice about travelling here - no food off the street, especially not ice, gifts from strangers - no, drinks from old men - DEFINITELY no... But I figured I was with others, I watched the drink being poured and the fruit being prepared...no bad effects yet! Then we just wandered around the city, there are some BEAUTIFUL crumbling colourful houses on cobbled streets with flowers in window boxes etc. also INCREDIBLE. Graffiti with pretty clear messages of social revolution and change. Was a total tourist today but this place calls for it and I think it's time for me to accept that I am a tourist here and I can't change that so I may as well own it. I always liked the idea of being a traveler not a tourist, and i hope that will come with time but for now I just don't have the know-how to be a traveler not a tourist. Valparaiso was a good start though! Need to get my laundry soon, I ran out of clean clothes after valparaiso and only had a chance to get them cleaned today - I can't wait to have fresh, clean clothes to wear! Already noticing the things I appreciate while on the road are so different to normal. Clean clothes, hot showers, a bed to sleep in, smiles and friendly people. It's fantastic.
