Goreme, also known as Cappadochia, was our next stop. Goreme is known for houses built into the rocks and also the strange shapes of the rocks and mountains in these parts. Followers of star wars wouod recognise it from the first film. It is very beautiful and we were staying at a hotel called "The Flintstones" which was quite appropriate. The rooms were built into the rocks and had an outdoor pool which we were delighted about cause it was very warm.
Had some beautiful traditional turkish food in Goreme - you might gather that I quite like turkish food :-) For the one full day that we had in Goreme we packed in quite a lot. We got up at 4 am to go on an air balloon ride at sunrise. The balloon ride was fantastic, we all packed into one balloon, but there must have been at least 20 balloons in the sky. The terrain is fantastic and it was a great way to start the day - as was the complimentary glass of champagne that we received at the end.
After breakfast, I went abseiling with a few others from the group. I went down twice as there were two different types of links that were used - an idiot proof safety one and a more advanced one. Unfortunately two of the group who went to the abseiling wouldn't do it when the got there - bless.
Goreme is lovely - it is quite a drive from Istanbul but definately worth a few days if you have the time to spend in turkey. I didn't go to Gallipoli as it was a long day trip and preferred to get my hair cut and get a traditional turkish shave, but very good supposedly.
