Today we headed south to Wellington from Auckland. We had hoped to take our time and to be able to stop off and see a few things but apparently Jan. 2 is a holiday. You know because it's the day after the first day of the year...so again everything was closed and we wern't the only ones wanting to travel! So we had to take a bus that took most of the day to work our way down. Everyone talks about the South Island being so beautiful but from what we've seen the North Island has a lot to brag about as well. After a long day and a crowded bus and a car sick Kristi we made it to Wellington! Just like in Australia we really didn't account for all the locals who would be traveling for their summer holidays we seem to keep running into availability issues here. Our goal was to make it to the South Island the next day via ferry where we would then pick up our car. Well due to the holiday and the howrds of people traveling we couldn't get on the ferry so we had to stay in Wellington for an extra night until we could catch a flight out on the 4th.
Not much to report in Wellington, we walked around and soaked in the city. At this point we decided that we would camp for the remainder of our trip. This way we wouldn't have to worry about accomadations being full and we could escape dorm rooms as well as save a little money. So we spent our time in Wellington buying our camping supplies. All we bought was a small two man tent, some sleeping bags and pads and we figured we would feel the rest in latter.
