Reached KL on my longest ever bus journey and met some nice locals that helped me find the way to the metro station that I needed to get to for my hostel, in the Chinatown area. Adam who I met in Thailand was doing his visa run and came to KL so met up with him, and he tried to find the way to my hostel, thinking he knew where it was, but instead we ended up doing a huge circle, when it was right near the metro station all along! The journey from Thailand wasn't too bad and as I was approaching the city, you see all the amazing green plants and trees of the rain forests and so I knew I was going to like it. Felt really strange having to get used to a new country, food and currency again though and felt a bit home-sick for Thailand.
Next day went to Merdeka Square, where lots of people gathered to hear the announcement of Malaysia being an independent country, and there are some beautiful buildings surrounding it. Adam left again just after that and so later in the afternoon, I got the monorail to the shopping malls in the golden triangle area, then later went for tea with a girl from New Zealand that I met in the hostel. The food in Malaysia is great becuase there's a huge amount of locals originating from China and India, so they have a lot of that type of food which I love.
The day after I walked around and headed over to the National Museum and Lake Gardens. The weather in KL was always really humid and seemed to be sunny most mornings, then rained in the afternoon. Later in the day, I went with Matt from my hostel to the KL tower, and stupidly walked out with out an umbrella and it just rained the whole way there and it was at least an half an hour walk, so got soaked! We got up to the top of the tower as it got dark but couldn't see a lot becuase it was up in the clouds.
Went for a drink and some of the bars are quite nice in the golden triangle area. Also went to look at the Petronas Twin Towers, which look amazing at night with all the lights.
Next day went to the National Mosque, which is huge! Had to wear a gown that covered all of me except my face, I don't know how they do it when it's so hot!! The mosque was really interesting and had a lady give us loads of information about Muslims and prayers etc. A few people in the hostel went out for tea with the guy that runs it and he took us to a really local street place that did chinese noodles.
I got the monorail then a bus the next morning to the airport and caught my plane over to Kuching in Sarawak, Borneo. I was originally planning on going to Sabah, Borneo but the guy running the hostel had lived in Sarawak and told me I should go there because you see the same stuff and it's cheaper and there's less tourists, so I did:)
