DAY 38 - 42 : 23rd August - 27th August - Pucon
Pucon is situated in the lake district region of Chile, it is a very traditional and small town. The center is situated on a lake with volcanoes either side. On my first day I decided to go canopying (zip lines over rivers and through trees) I though I was going to die - considering all the instructions were in Spanish I was not too confident in my translation, but I made it back alive so that's what really counts. The hostel I am staying in is really nice; my first two nights there were two Argentineans and one Chilean guy plus the owner (who is very hot - his name is Benjy!!!!!). The Chilean guy is a professional chef so he cooked dinner for us every night for free - which was a great budget saver and he was a great cook so that was a bonus.
On my third day two older women (ok not that old but they were 45) from Scotland arrived, at first they seemed boring as they just sat in their room. On the third night it was Friday so we all decided to go out for drinks. Benjy made me try the traditional drink of Chile Pisco (only have one if you try it - its very strong) anyway after 3 I was suitable smashed and we ended up staying in the bar until close and we got kicked out. One of the Scottish women hooked up with a guy that must have been my age! Crazy but funny! During the day I had been talking to Benjy and he was asking me how he can improve his hostel and tour business so I gave him a few ideas - but that evening I met a guy who works for gap adventures who was complaining about the hostel his group was staying so I invited him over to Benjy's hostel to have a BBQ the following evening before their bus to Santiago.
The next day I woke up with the worst hangover I have had since I have been travelling - Lesson Pisco is leathal!!!! But we had a BBQ to prepare for and I had to leave at 10:45pm for my overnight bus to Santiago. It ended up that Benjy made a deal with the guy and that his hostel was now going to be used by gap adventures - so I did so business - in return I got a free nights accomendation and a free BBQ so not bad going really!!
It was the first place I was upset to leave as I wanted to stay longer but I had to be in Santiago on the 28th as I was to stay with a Chilean family and study Spanish at a school. But I would like to return to Pucon and Puerto Varas in the future but next time during spring so its not so cold!! That's all for now!!
