I will pick up where sarah left off. On 29th Dec we made our way to Palm beach where Home and Away is filmed. We as you can imagine me and Sarah were such geeks and got very excited about being there. We couldnt believe we were swimming in the same sea as Rick and where alf does his fishing!!! It was a very exciting day and didnt get back until late and rushed to get ready to meet our friends for a few drinks. Met upbreifly with Natasha and Louis which was really cool as hadnt seen them properly since Airlie beach. Arranged to meet up on new year with them. We went and met our friends Jane and Sophie and ended up again back in the Sidebar so we can say that the only places we actually went out was infact the sidebar in sydney as we had no time to go out anywhere else really.
We then went to the Sydney Aquirium which was cool but we had seen most of the stuff in the sea when were were snorkelling but it was fun. we then caught a ferry over to Manly beach which was lovely but really packed as you can see from our photos. We both preferred Palm Beach as it was less crowded. We were both very lucky not to get stung by Bluebottles (not the flies as we thought but jelly fish), as lots of others did. After topping up our tans for the afternoon we went back to the city and grabbed dinner before trying to get an early night as we had arranged to meet our friends to que at 7am for the fireworks.
After getting up at 6am on new years eve and loaded with a picnic food ( well lots of crap) we headed to the Botanical gardens and qued to get into Mrs Macquires point. We werent the only crazy ones as we were about 200 in the que. Gates didnt open until 10am so we had a good long time to sunbathe from 7.30am onwards as it was roasting already at this time. We sent Louis in to run for the best spot while myself, Natasha and Sarah carried all the stuff there. It was the best spot ever and we were all so happy about it. We all had a feeling it was goona be a good day. Had really nice day chilling in the sun and walking around the gardens. The atmosphere was so good and it was absolutly packed there but we didnt care as we had a good spot. Saw a really cool sunset over the city then waited for the kids fireworks at 9pm. These were good but nothing compared to the ones at midnight. These were out of this world we didnt know where to look especially at the end of them...just amazing. was well worth getting up so early.
Had a very exciting New Years day as we got up and phoned back home for your New Year celebration then did washing...how exciting. In the eveing we went to the Theatre to see Billy Elliott.. this was amazing and the boy who played billy is an awesome dancer. We both cried at it, it was that good.
Had an early start on 2nd Jan as we were making our way done to Melbourne on a 3day tour with Oz experience. We first headed to the Capital City of Oz, Canberra. This was cool (well it actually was nearly 40 degress) and went to the best war memorial. Our Dad would have been wetting himself here it was so amazing but had to rush around as only had an hour so couldnt read everything!!! Next went to Parliment house where i think i now know more about ozzie politics then i do about english!! Our tour guide Jane was so good and really knew loads not just here but all the way down to melbourne.
We stayed in a Motel in place called Jindabyne and had amazing views of the lake and Snowy Mountains. After getting up at 6am we then went into the Snowy mountains and did a 10km hike along Charlottes pass to get amazing views.. Who knew that Oz actually got snow and wasnt just desert and beaches! After this hike which was really hard especially the hills..we are both so unfit now especially after all the crap we are eating cos its cheap!, we had a long journey through the National park up in the mountains with amazing cliff top views. We crossed the boarder of New South Whales into Victoria and the Alpine national park. Here we spent the night in a place called Lakes Entrance which again was stunning. Had an even earlier start 5am the next day ready for our journey to Wilsons Promotory National Park. We walked around in the bush and saw loads of wild Kangaroos and got attacked by thousands of grass hoppers..this was gross especially in flip flops(or should i say thongs).
Next we stopped at a white sand beach called Sqweeky Beach which was stunning and as the names says the sand does make a noise. While Sarah was busy Sunbaking i walked with the girls from our bus to get some amazing views ovwr the beach. Basically this tour down to Melbourne was amazing scenery and we were sad it was our last trip on an Oz bus..but we had a great group and a wicked driver for the last few days.
Our first day in Melbourne we did an official Neighbours tour (this was especially for you Benx). We went to Ramsey street and saw all the houses and it is alot smaller than it looks on tv...camera angles are very impressive. As we did the tour on a weekend we didnt get to meet any of the cast but got a backlot tour instead as they dont film on the weekends. This was cool as we got to walk around lassiteres and the lake. Was very exciting to see even if we are more home and away fans!!!
We then went to the Melbourne museum in the afternoon and used the Tram system for the first time which was cool. The museum was good and Sarah especially liked the Bugs displays with a mixture of fake and real specimins. Spent the whole afternnonn just wandering around here. In the eveing we made it to the Moonlight cinema in the Botanical gardens and watched Lions for Lambs under the stars and with bats flying around it was very cool.
Today 6th jan we have walked around and seen some if the sights of Melbourne including another excellent war memorail. Then made our way to Melbourne Zoo which was really good especially the Lion feeding and Orang u tan feeding. Sarah had the camera on the orang u tans at this point and got a bit snap happy! The Meerkat enclousure was cool to as you could get right up close to them.
Well this is our last blog from Oz as we are off to New Zealand tomorrow cant believe we are leaving Oz already and that its been 2 months here......time flies when your having fun.
