'Verity's Travels'
Hello from Vancouver, BC!
We've been in Canada a week and a half now and it's stunning! Before heading here we had a day and night in LA (on route from Fiji). We stayed in Hollywood and got to see all the stars in the pavements, the Hollywood sign, the Kodak Theatre where the Oscars take place etc. We went on a 'movie star homes' tour which took us up into Beverly Hills. We saw over 40 houses including the mansions of P. Diddy, Snop Dogg, the Osbornes, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, the Hiltons, Robbie Williams, the house used in 'The Fresh Prince of Bel Air'.... I won't go on listing them all! We aslo saw bars owned by Justin Timberlake, Cindy Crawford and the sets of many movies. We then cruised down Rodeo Drive (where hey all hand out to shop and eat). It was very interesting!
We had a day in Vancouver before our tour of the Rockies started ansd we have a few days now before we herad back to the States. The bus started in Whistler, a very upmarket ski town, where we stayed in a beautiful challet right in the mountains with full use of hot tub etc with amazing views. We took the chair lift (used by skiers in the ski season) up to the top of the mountains which took 45 mins and on the way up we saw a brwon bear, it was very cute! The views from the top were breathtaking :). Whistler had a very nice ski village with lovely bars.
The route onto the Rockies took us to Banff, another very nice and classy ski resort. On our way here we saw some stunning lakes, waterfalls and canyons. For thsoe of you that like New Zealand, you would adore Western Canada, it's the most awesome scenery I've ever seen. The lakes (including Lake Louise and Emerald Lake) are a beautiful aqua marine colour with huge snow capped mountains and pine trees surrounding them. We also went ot a glacier and I walked on the edge of it. The drive called the 'Icefields Parkway' is ranked as the number 1 most scenic drive in the world and I can clearly see why!!! It passing hundreds of miles of snow capped mountains, glaciers, waterfalls, everything the Canadian Rockies stands for.
Our hostels were nice too, as in Jasper we stayed in log cabins in the forest where there was a huge resident bear, we saw his baby the following day! We had a camp fire, true Canadian style!
Well, we are off to Seattle in a few days and then next weekend getting the Amtrak (train) across to Chicago which takes 46 hours! We do have our own bedroom on the train thuogh and it'sd full board so meals will be served to us, I'm really looknig forweard to it. Then after Chicago I fly to Boston to meet up with Becca and will spend time going to all the places we used to when we lived there (YAY!) and will spend a few days in New York too.
Hope you are all well.
