We are on the train to Venice right now so I thought I'd do an update on Oktoberfest and Munich.
I have to say, the first experience of the fest was a little negative. Maybe that is because we walked into a beer tent sober while all our friends were already partying and off their face. It wasn't the most wonderful thing. Then, after paying too much for our beers, someone ended up throwing a tissue from the other side of the room and it landed in my drink! Aagh! I was not impressed. It sucks being sober in that situation.
We ended up leaving around 4pm and couldn't get in anywhere! It was ridiculous!! So we went on a roller coaster which was great fun (I did feel a bit of my beer one up tho ew) and walked around a little. I bought my pegs which are cute. I have 3 of them now! One with Foss, Angelica & NWE
That night we went to Augustiner Keller for a couple of beers with the intention of stealing the glasses but it was impossible. I had eyes on me! I also managed to break one of them too! Gah!
The next day we decided to get to the grounds early. By the time we go there, the tents were already full! 9am! Ridiculous! So we went into the wine tent, smashed a bottle of Prosecco, walked around, couldn't get in anywhere so we went back in, had lunch and some more wine before heading back to the hostel. We went and did some shopping (ZARA) and before I knew it, it was pissing down rain! When we decided to head back to the fest, it was a lost cause. Way too many people trying to get in with the rain. It was bulls***! I was not impressed!
So after getting rained on and almost catching a pneumonia, we went back to the hostel and had some cheap eats from the train station. It was a very disappointing end to the day.
Then Sunday came along. We got up, went to the Aussie pub to watch the footy which started at 9am. We drank a couple of beers there before heading to Oktoberfest. Kate's friends had already gotten into Augustiners which made me happy. The best beer!
We got in, thankfully Sunday is not as busy as Saturday. We sat with some lovely people from Perth who now live in London. Meg and Tim. We had a great day and I managed to take an Augustiner cup with me! Scott also bought me a pin and a stein! So nice!
This was definitely the experience of Oktoberfest I needed! Otherwise it would have been all negative on my end! Our waitress was great aswell. I was craving a gerkin and she ended up giving me one as a gift for me and my baby haha. She was saying women only crave gerkin when they are pregnant haha. I just love gerkin!
So last night we ended up eating at Augustiner stubn which was lovely but you don't realize how full u are after all the beer!
Today is Scott's birthday and we are off to Venice! I have a bottle of Prosecco waiting for him in the room and we are going on a twilight gondola ride and then we will go eat dinner together. It can be in celebration of both Scott and Kate's birthdays!
