Having the tools to hypnotize yourself allows you quick and easy access to gain control over your emotions and change your moods or behavior patterns at will.
If you decide, for example, that you will quit smoking and this will be your last cigarette, doesn't it follow logically that you should be able to move beyond the desire to quit with conscious and decisive action and never smoke again?
We all wish it were that simple. Look at how hard it is to actually quit smoking, or to change any unhealthy or unproductive behavior. Can't you think back on things you've said you wish you hadn't and could take back? What about diets or exercise programs you started and quit after a short period of time?
Here's the plain truth: controlling your mind is the key to controlling your actions. One way to control your mind is with self-hypnosis. It is also the one of the secret weapon of hypnosis show.
Decide what you want
Choose a goal, something you want to achieve. Create a seed phrase to stimulate the success of that goal in your mind. Now pair the seed phrase with a clear visual image of yourself experiencing the desired outcome.
If the goal is to stop smoking, a seed phrase could be: "I've been a non-smoker for years." Pair the seed phrase with a visual image of sitting and talking with someone you love after dinner, over a glass of wine perhaps. You are calm and happy, with no thought of anpost-meal smoke.
Put on some comfortable clothes-workout or yoga clothes are great. Avoid tight or stiff clothing. This practice-and yes, it should become ongoing practice-takes place with you sitting or reclining comfortably. Your body should be under no stress whatsoever.
Turn the phone and all other communication devices off. Turn off the TV and any music or talk radio. You should be in a completely quiet an calm environment without distraction.
The first step is clearing your mind. If you're preoccupied with things to do, put them down on a list and set it aside for later.
The easiest method of putting yourself into a hypnotic state is to count aloud backwards from twenty. Some people prefer to focus on a single point with their eyes and half closed, so that the point is in a soft focus. Either method is fine.
Change your mind
Once you reach a state of mind that is calm and clear and completely without distraction, you have reached a state of self-hypnosis. At this point repeat your chosen seed phrase to yourself silently and visualize your chosen image clearly. Keep doing this for several minutes.
Bring it home
Once you have fully internalized your seed phrase and image, let your body come back to its normal state slowly. There's no rush, keep it going. Let linger the visual image: notice details in the scene you hadn't before as you slowly come back to body consciousness and out of your hypnotic state.
Create the results you desire by believing in your goals and in yourself. Expect to achieve the results you want. People just like you quit smoking every day. There is no real reason why you can't stop too.
Self-hypnosis, like meditation, is a long-term practice rather than a one-time thing to do. You may test several different methods before you find what works best for you. Be patient and keep at it. You are worth the effort.
Trying out hypnotherapy and stage hypnosis with friends can also help. Studying and feeling the methods of experts is a great way to quickly inform your own practice.
