Day Eleven / South Island
Queenstown, our final destination in New Zealand! We really like it here but the campsite was not so good. The bays are all on top of each other, totally crammed in. Went for a stroll into town and ended up at a casino! We actually won! Because we won the casino offered to drive us back to our campsite. I think it was the best idea as we had far too much to drink to walk! Well we had to celebrate winning!
After 10 days we have finally had enough of our campervan (bad hangovers and campervans don't mix), we came across a really good deal online for some apartments down the road. Oak Shores. We had a fantastic apartment, probably the best we have ever stayed in. We booked a one bed but they only had a two bed available, shame! We will put some pictures on. We had lake access from our apartment and the views were breath taking, they did not look real, like a post card or something. It also had a full kitchen and laundry so we were able to do all our washing. Only downside to the apartments was that the campervan wouldn't fit in the underground car park. It didn't go down to well stuck outside reception as they were timeshares and the sales reps were showing people around. I don't think they are used to back packers here! So we decided to swap the van for a car, luckily this was free of charge as we were down grading. We had accumulated quite a lot of stuff by this point, extra blankets, heater etc so went back to the campsite we were on and gave it all to a couple of Ozzy's we met in the Casino who were very grateful.
There is so much to do here but we just wanted to chill, only booked on one activity, jet boating through a canyon, very scary but fantastic! The world cocktail making championships was on in the centre of town, so had to check that out and sample a couple of cocktails, made by the best in the world! Then onto the Casino again, we were playing black jack and I was sat next to this smelly guy. I said to Si that he looked like a rock star! he kept betting lots of money at once and always had two drinks on the go. The croupier then told us he was the guy who sang the New Zealand rugby anthem for the World Cup and he was on the telly all the time whilst we were over there!
Just at Queenstown airport waiting for our flight to Auckland, we have one night there then off to OZ.
Stayed at Sky City Casino in Auckland (another really nice hotel), thought we would try our luck there! It worked; we kept winning, ended up with $2800!! Not bad for a couple of hours! We leave New Zealand on a high!
