- Today we had to wake up really early (like 5am) to get ready and finish packing our bags before leaving Venice. We took the water bus around 6:45am to the train station which was only a 10 minute ride.
- Since we were so early for the train (our train was at 7:50am) we got some breakfast in the café at the train station which was very yummy! I had a chocolate croissant and a café latte; possibly the best breakfast I've had in a very long time and I got to have Italian espresso!
- Then we got on our train and headed to Milano. Our train ran pretty late and we didn't get to Milano until around 11am. Our next train to Como was at 11:10 but luckily (I guess) it was delayed so we just hung out at the train station for like a half an hour.
Kate's blog entry written by Kristen.
We arrived in Como around 2:30 PM, walked a little to the lake, grabbed lunch real quick and then took the hydrofoil boat from Como to Mennagio. It was a "fast" boat (it took an hour to get here) and we really enjoyed the views. Lake Como is gorgeous! On our way to the boat (while Kate was struggling with her broken bag - one of the wheels are busted so she's carrying it on her back for the time being) Kris found a couple from California to attempt to figure out where to get the ferry to Mennagio. We pretty much befriended them and navigated together. They were really nice, on their honeymoon and this was their last stop.
We arrived to the hostel and dropped off our bags because it was closed until 5 PM. We then took the ferry to Bellagio across the lake on another water taxi. We have spent a lot of time on boats in case you cannot tell! But the ride was simply beautiful! In Bellagio there was a lot of shopping, restaurants, etc. We window shopped a bit, walked up and down these huge staircases that take you up and down the streets multiple times, and then decided to go on a little walk to the tip of Bellagio where lake Como divides. That was even prettier. We saw 2 swans swimming, a sailboat, a jet ski. It's so picturesque. We also found some packing tape that we plan to use to attempt to fix Kate's bum wheel that fell out on her suitcase (cross your finger's that it works).
Before heading back to Mennagio @ 6:45 we got some gelato (yummy as usual). Then we walked around Mennagio a bit to find out how to get bus tickets to get back to the train station, etc. It is so cute and beautiful here. Most people speak Italian, or are tourists and do not speak English so that has been kind of fun/interesting. In Venice most people spoke at least some English so the language barrier was not so much an issue. We arrived at our hostel around 8 PM and ordered dinner. They cook here-and we had great pesto bow tie pasta, bruschetta, and are sharing some chardonnay as we speak. Our room here is going to be very cramped,6 females in 3 sets of bunk beds with lots of stuff. But we're only really here to sleep for the night because we have to get up early and be out of here by like 7 AM in route to Interlaken, Switzerland which is our next stop. We will arrive there tomorrow afternoon after 1 bus and 3 trains. We are there until Thursday when we leave for Paris.
