O my god.....it's 0540 and the alarm has just gone off.....it is freezing and seems very light already....panic....have we missed it??? A quick dress and then out into the cold....even the sand is freezing....a few sprints up the sand dunes later we were greeted with the sun rising.....beautiful.....
A quick breakfast and then back onto our steeds for a better and less sandblasted trip back to M'hamid.....after about an hour our guide told us to move back on the dromedra and my god that was a lot more comfortable!!!
It was a good ride out and experience.....and allowed us a little time to relax an enjoy each other without the hustlers and rip offs.....
Now the longest road journey known to man.....starts at 0900 and ends at 1900 (ish).....a drive to Zagora to get our bags whilst avoiding the locals who were determined not to get there 4x4 wheels dirty and were happy to watch our little fiesta get its off road capability proven......
A quick pit stop to get fuel for the chariot and us and we headed off.....not sure where we would stop.....a winding road back to Ouzazarate and then into the hills.....a brilliant road until we reached a random quarry? And then it was back to semi-off road....and a real test for our little engine and Baz's gear changing skills.....
Finally it ended and we were back to a better road and making our way to the turn for the 'Atlas'.....tedious as it was when we turned off it was beautiful! The 'Atlas' is our favourite!! The road started to climb and seemed to narrow as it did....a steep drop and the appearance of heavy fog saw Rach go quiet.....VERY quiet! It appears she is not to keen on being that close to the edge.....
The fog and narrow road negotiated we dropped back down through some amazing scenery.....lovely villages.....and started to relax....with Asni within striking distance we decided to push all the way to there.....
Arriving just as darkness reached we found that Asni is not plush with accommodation choices.....a sign pointed to a Riad.....so we followed......more off road.....but this time it was real! Don't tell the hire company...:-/ we couldn't drive all the way so Rach walked the rest and came back with the owner and a guilty look....it appears it is almost our daily budget.....with 12hrs in a car behind us we accepted the price.....
It was stunning and lovely people.....they offered us food for tea.....we accepted and then came the cost.....we said we couldn't afford the price......so after Rach spoke with a man on the phone to overcome the language barrier.....they said they would feed us for less......
The best meal we have had here! Amazing and worth the price they were asking.....as guilty as we feel for not having the money we are inspired by true and genuine kindness and the finest Moroccans we have met!
Time for a sleep on an awesome bed!!!
