The Venezuelean spoon has managed to spoon himself (!) down to Santa Elena de Uairen. Nightbuses in Venezuela, or actually in South-America ususally has the aircon pumping on full strength which means if u don´t get dressed for sleeping in an igloo, u will eventually freeze to death in a very uncomfortable position. If that happens, thousands of years later the spoon will be dug out by archeologists who will probably come to the conclusion that the spoon died in a spooncarnage coz of the sudden drop of temperature.
Santa Elena de Uairen is dead boring, there is nothing happening here... Typical lazy bordertown... but it´s a great starting point for trekking Roraima where I´m gonna pretend I´m a part of the Avatar movie for 6 days. Right now, I´m idling here together with an Aussie, waiting to get a big enough group (5 people) so we can do it cheap. But this is the second day of waiting now, and if noone arrives soon I´m gonna have to spoon myself out of here. It´s too expensive to do it with only two people as u need a lot of equipment and a guide and we´re not to keen on paying for everything ourselves. Bussing down here from Ciudad Bolivar took us through the Gran Sabana, which is where they filmed Jurassic Park. Supposedly one of the most scenic roads in South-America. What was not so cool however, was the endless amount of military checkpoints and drug searches. On the 12 hour drive, the sleepless spoon was stopped on six seperate occasions. Funny how one becomes urgently paranoid everytime they search your bags, even tho this spoon has no dirty owls in his bag. Not looking forward to the 24 hour busdrive back to the coast.
Money issues has been sorted, hired a guy to drive me into Brazil where I withdrew some dineros... No immigration formalities is needed as the bank is right there on the border and the guards are pretty used to tourists doing this. I withdrew approx 600 reais which is roughly 2000,- norwegian kroner, drove back to Santa Elena and changed it in the street at the blackmarket rate. And just like that, I´ve doubled my money. 600 reais became 3600 bolivares which is more or less 4500,- NOK. Risky, but perfectly executed by the daredevil of a spoon.
The supertough spoon had a chat with the Panama spoon today, and can report of big waves and super surf in Panama. The surfing spoon is spending his days on the southwestern coast of Panama waiting for the fork to arrive. There´s some rumours about a new documentary hitting the scene at home about the Panama spoon called "Klovn", u might wanna check that out!
Anyway, the trekking spoon is gonna continue his search for a group to Roraima now. Heard some talk about 2-3 people flying down here, also in search of a group. It´s low season here now, and really not that many tourists. Wish me luck!
