20 June 2014 - The Constant Checker
As I've got older, I find a neurotic compulsion to constantly check where things are; wallets, glasses, sunglasses, phones etc. This often happens when I'm driving, but it can get me at any time. On this occasion, genuinely, I was in search of my sunglasses. Its not unknown for me to wonder where my phone is when I'm actually speaking on it.

m I use the term body-slapping for this and you illustrate the technique rather well, including the panic-stricken facials. I find relief at airports when I see others doing it. There have been two occasions when my worst fears were realised: the boarding pass was actually gone (when I'd already passed through security). In Newark, it was a surprisingly uncomplicated matter to get relief. In the Dublin/Ryanair situation it was rather less straightforward.
