Leek, UK
Ok, so I am still in Leek for another 3 weeks but I thought that I would try and test out my blogging technique and share a few thoughts about the application process, and also how I am feeling about my move. 'm not exactly going away for extensive travelling, although I will try to get as much in as I can around my work schedule, which I hope will involve getting to at least Japan and China in my time off, as well as exploring every inch of South Korea.
Anyway, In February this year I looked into the possibility of teaching English somewhere in Asia and filled in an online application. I know loads of people do it and people usually see it as an exciting option after leaving uni. I''m a little older than the standard 'leaving uni' age but it is still something that I have always wanted to do, but just never get round to it.
Earlier this month I went through the interview process which involved both a phone interview and a skype interview later, which was very weird and I can remember being quite nervous about it and speaking way too quickly. Apparently the recruiters are more used to South African, Canadian and American accents, so Stokey probably wasn't too clear at first and once I realised they hadn't got a scooby doo what I was on about I was ok.
Once I got offered the job the international paperwork commenced. I had to get an apostille for my degree certificate and criminal record check from the Foreign and Commenwealth Office which cost £60 as well as getting my documents certified by a solictior. This almost ended in disaster as I thought i had to get the documents notorized by a specialist notary law firm which I was quoted £150 for but it turned out that a very nice regular high street lawyer did it for nowt which I am very greatful for. Plus, it was still fine and my documents and contract are now in the post to South Korea.
The next thing that happens (assuming my documents don't get lost and I can't go) is that Korean immigration sort me out a work visa and my flights will get booked for the 24th. I am really excited about the whole thing and hope it lives up to all expectations!!
