Hi we just got to Brisbane after living in and driving a campervan for ten days.
We picked up the van in Sydney and drove north to Port Maquarie. We wanted to get north as quickly as possible so we had time to go to Fraser Island and tehrefore didn't spend much time in Macquarie. Our first significant stop was Byron Bay, after a quick stop in Coffs Harbour to see the Big Banana (photos to come). Byron Bay was quite a hippy area - many surfers, bars, restaurants. However it's probably more lively in the summertime. We had a surfing lesson which was awesome - both managed to stand up and catch our own waves. We went out that night to some of Byron's bars. The following day we drove on up to Hervey Bay - the departure point for Fraser Island. Went to Fraser Island the following day and spent all day there. It was really beatiful - crystal clear water, white sand, 75miles of beaches. Unforunately it was just a little too cold and we didn't see any dingoes. We did get to swim in Lake Mckenzie which was beautiful (also the sand there is so fine you can clean your jewelry with it). When we got back to Hervey Bay there was a drive in movie by the beach showing Mary Poppins for FREE! Yay. The next day we started making our way down to Brisbane to visit Australia Zoo. The zoo was really good fun, if a bit expensive. We got to cuddle some dingoes, hold a koala, stroke kangaroos, alligators. We saw the famous Steve Irwin crocodile show (starring his wife and two children!) and then witnessed two tigers fighting (pretty scary!)
We dropped the van off in Brisbane this morning and are just figuring out what to do before flying to Bangkok tomorrow morning. Not sure what the internet access will be like in Thailand but hopefully blog soon! Hope everyone is well xx

Lesley Cuddle a dingo? Jings! That was brave! Bet the Big Banana isn't as good as the Big Merino! Seriously impressed re surfing. I managed 2 second stand up and that was over 2 solid mornings of lessons. Hope you enjoy Thailand. In other news - Louise has found a flat in Aberdeen for next year; Sandy is at T in the Park complete with oodles of pot noodles and quite a few tinnies and a pop up tent that will keep the mud out for fully 30 minutes. G and I are going up to Aviemore ( you really must come up there sometime for a couple of days and then off until the 20th. Then we are in Chelmsford on the 4th Aug - when we hope to see you! Amy Lois - yes, sad to leave Cam in one sense, but super excited in another. Am off to Australia for the year - flights to Perth booked for September 10th. After that I literally have no plans at all! So maybe London (I may well try again for masters/PhD places), but I'm just going to see what this year brings. Hope all's going well with the Cambridge job and hopefully see you in the next few weeks when Ails is back! xxx
