6th Sept 2012
OK so I know I've been a little slack about my blogs, but honestly I just became exhausted from all the things I was doing. So now I will try to catch you all up on what has been going on. Milly left to go back home so I didn't see her or Miko again, but hopefully we will catch up in Adelaide next week.
For the most part I couldn't do much sunbathing or surfing because of my tattoos. So basically I stayed home or rode my scooter around with another friend I made Furzhad. He is from Iran and wants to open a restaurant as well so we ended up hanging out and swapping stories. We went to Padma beach on one day and literally just watched the world go by on sun lounges sipping beer and cokes for me. Really nice guy of Persian heritage but a non practicing Muslim so I left nothing out of my stories. We watched the sunset and it was pretty spectacular, as the surf in front was quite big and there were people everywhere as Hindu celebrations were in full swing for their holidays which I can't remember the name of.
On another day I spent the day walking the length of the beach to find one of my housemates Putu to go surfing, but of course I could not find him. As I walked the length of the beach I saw a movie being made and wandered over. It looked like a telemovie and it was, so I filmed the entire thing as it was so interesting. Spoke to most of the production staff as good as I could with my bad Indonesian, and then the main actor who spoke perfect English started talking to me between takes! His name is Boy William and he is going to be a big star I think! He is already the MTV VJ for Indonesia although he only modestly told me this as I was leaving. I had questioned him about whether or not he was famous here and he told me he wasn't but people asking to have their photo taken with him constantly kind of made it obvious that he was. Lovely boy and we have become friends and I intend on watching his career closely. It was the highlight of the day for me.
Most nights I would catch up with my friends who are staff at Bread Talk and JCO my fav places for coffee and croissants. Nurah(manager of Breadtalk) is a beautiful person with a lovely soul, Oka who is one of their bakers and constantly fed me homemade alcohol was the funniest person I have met in a while! Dian who works behind he counter at JCO is the most beautiful Indonesian girl I have met. She is warm, caring, funny and happy, and I enjoyed every moment of time I spent with her. Bebek another donut baker was just lovely with the BEST smile you will ever see. Wayan, what can I say about Wayan; love him! Then security guard Made by far my favourite, who loves Aerosmith and was the happiest person ever. All of these people were so good to me, looking out for me and just making my days feel like I had friends. I miss them all sooo much now that I am back in Australia.
Then on another day I met Peter who will, I hope be my friend forever. Another Australian who lives in Bali and has more interesting stories than me. Partner Rudy is awesome as well and again I miss them so much already. I stayed my last night with them and what a laugh they are. Beautiful little house so clean and homely made my last night very special. They both got up at 3.30 am to take me and my huge suitcase to the airport with me riding one scooter and them and my suitcase on another. Absolute gems.
Another night about 2am I needed to exchange some Aussie notes to buy smokes which was proving impossible, even though I rode all the way into Kuta on my pushie. Walking out of another Alpha mart very dejected and sleepless, an Australian man David bought me a packet of smokes and we got talking. He took me back to a bar Carusoe's where his girlfriend worked and got $200 dollars exchanged for me. He is a solicitor from Sydney who basically ferries between the two countries as often as he can. I will definitely be looking him up when I get to Sydney. He made sure he told all of the staff at Carusoe's to look after me when he left and they very much did!
Another day I took young Kadek out with me to buy some things for him and his sister Komang. We had such a good time going everyewhere. I brought him the Oakley sunglasses he had been wanting for a long time and a pair of skinny jeans. We went to Roy's for lunch and coffee. I really like him he is a sweet boy and so funny when he comes out of his shell! Another night at a bar called backbone I met a family from Yorkshire in England and had my ass WHIPPED on the pool table by their 19 yo boy Jack and his uncle! Sharks no doubt, both play comp like me so we played proper World Rules. The band there was awesome,e and they were fantastic guys, with loads of talent. Straight across from Backbone (which is on Benesari Lane) was another restaurant that I frequented, owned by a man named G'day. Yes G'day! Lovely man who had only been in business 3 wks but drew me in with a sign saying best coffee in Kuta. Pretty good it was, but not the best, JCO hold that title!
Gosh I met so many good and interesting people it is hard to believe that not one annoying person crossed my path. I was pretty happy to be there though, so I guess I wasn't going to be attracting the wrong types for once in my life. I just had the absolute time of my life! Bali is the best and I highly recommend ANYBODY to go there. Wonderful place, wonderful people and culture, beautiful scenery, fantastic food and very cheap! What more could you possibly want from a holiday? NOTHING!
