Hello all! This is going to have to be a quickkie (first computer we've found to use- sitting in a hotel office - where we are not staying - and have managed to get them to use their computer for the internet!)\
Well, we left Wenchang on Firday last week - we were driven to Haikou by our friends and felloe teachers in the headmaster's car and from there we began our mammoth trip... A sleeper bus and ferry to Guangzhou... a 24hr sleeper train to Guiyang... another sleeper train to Kunming, followed by a sleeper bus last night to Jinhong [here] arriving at 6am this morning. Knackered. This travelling malarky in China is pretty damn rushed but we need to get outta the country before Sarah's visa runs out in a couple of days - which unfortunately means missing some things along the way... still, it's quite an impressive feat overland!
This town is about 6hrs drive from the border into Laos :) and so things are visually different - the people look a little different, the signs have laos writing accompanying the Chinese... and of course, the streetfood just get's more and more exciting... We have eaten so much steamed bread (there's a million and one different varieties!) and other exciting things on sticks... we als had fish intestine the other day, along with vegetarian pork balls (made from fungus) and als on the must-try list is river moss - i'll inform you how that goes. Much more to write but it'll have to wait til next time. Much love and take care! xxx
