Hey everyone. Well, currently we've arrived in Taupo.I'll update you till then.
Wednesday 11th March 2009
After hanging about in the morning waiting for our bus by spending time down the beach having lunch and Joe having a beer we made our way back to Auckland and decided we were hankering after Chinese. On arrival in, it started pissing down which was the first bad weather since arrival but it didn't last long. We stayed in Base for the night which wasn't the best. They had a freakin' button you had to press each time for 20 seconds of water. Very annoying as hell as Joe saw on my arrival back to the room when I kinda got locked out and he couldn't hear me banging like a wet idiot cause he had his freakin ipod in. Anyway, we went searching earlier in the night for a Chinese. They have a huge asian community here. They're everywhere. They even run practically all the souviner shops! However, do you think we could find a Chinese??? Not a bloody chance. Maybe they dont cook here. There's everything else but Chinese. Ended up getting bloody Malaysian.

Got up waaay to early for the bus to Mercury Bay. When we got there, it was a lovely day with pretty gorgeous views. We decided on going kayaking. After getting suited and booted (had to put on these horrible wet suits which cover the kayak seat so you dont get wet..) and some teaching, we got into our double kayak which is meant to be called the "friendship destroyer" Eventually we made it over to a beach and had some hot chocolate and it really wasn't that bad. Felt ok. Had a walk along, got some photos and tried to dry off cause we were soaked. Obviously the wet suit thing didn't work too well. We then set off to a few other places, the sun dissapeared and the sea got choppier and man did we have to work for our lunch. I was never so glad to see the beach. We were glad we done it though. However, I was so busy concentrating on rowing as hard as I could I wasn't able to enjoy the scenerey as much as I would've liked. We eventually arrived at our hostel called Turtle Cove and we were in the tiny hut like room with just a double bed in it and outside toilets next to it. After food and drinks we were gubbed and wanted to just get showered and bedded. We fell asleep at like 8,30pm lol. Living it up like. About 4am I was woken up by I am not kidding you, the most terrifying sound of my life. It was Joe screaming! I think for a split second I thought he was getting murdered. He was having a night terror. It took a few seconds for me to wake him up. I'm sure a few others were woken by it. Was so freakin' scary and he couldn't remember what it was. I spent the rest of the night terrified it was going to happen again, and it nearly did, only I was ready for it and stopped him before he started screaming. So scary. I woke up in the middle of the night also with the worst cramp I've ever had in my arms from the kayaking. It would take 2 days to get over that.

We both woke up looking and feeling like death having had not that much sleep. We got on the bus at an ungodly hour for us to make our way to Rotorua. We stayed at the Kiwi Paka hostel which was really nice lodges with our own shower and toilet. We were meant to make our way to the Polynesian Spa but we decided we'd go after we washed and dried our laundry and got some food. After that, we watched some 24, had a few drinks then we bloody nodded off and didn't wake up until late. These early mornings are SO not a good idea.

After another early start, we made our way to Waitomo. We stayed in the Kiwi Paka YHA which were nice enough also but had bloody wasps EVERYWHERE! I was god damned freaking out all the time but people here are so blasé about them, its the norm, they're their friends lol :s. When we arrived, we went on a short bush walk which was nice enough, then had a wee walk of our own, had a drink at the local, got chased out by the wasps, then went to the playpark and played on the swings hehe. Afterwards, had a wee nap then out to the hostel cafe for food. It was delicious but was HUGE portions so I did what any other backpacker would do, I asked if I could take it in a tub for later hehe. I was kinda thinking, maybe they think Ive just come from America... who cares, never gonna see them again. Later went down to their local again and got the drinks in. Finding the drinks are pretty reasonable here. Few of the folk from the bus came down so got to know thema bit. They're kinda cliquey. Think the couples tend to keep to themselves and the ones on their own all shack up. Also, theres a lot of English on and they tend to stick together But, we're fine mainly on our own and chatting away to whoever. We've stayed at a few places seperate from them cause they always stay at Base hostels which are s***e and we go onto the independent hostels or other ones.
Sunday 15th Match
For a day or two now, Joes been getting the beginnings of a cold and last night he was up most of it with a runny nose and cough. He woke up feelin s***e, shaky and achy. Not good. We got on the bus at 10.30 to go to Taupo and stopped at a rabbit shearing farm. Very random. These mofos are the biggest rabbits Ive seen in my life. I'll upload the pictures of them hehe. We were meant to be doing our skydive today but have had to cancel cause he's feeling so s***e. See how he feels tomorrow but if he still feels like crap we'll just do it in Queenstown. It's really cloudy today here anyway. Our hostel for a couple of days here is called Rainbow Lodge and is a nice enough independent hostel. Got our own shower and toilet for $110 for two nights which is pretty good. Gonna cook some food tonight for the first time here. Hmm.
Anyway, we've got wireless here so write me an email and I'll hopefully get it and reply here.
ps: Claire, hope you and Andy had a good meet up ;)
Love ya and missing ya all xxx
