Drove down to Berat after bidding farewell to our Tiranian host, Petrit, dodging the famous albanian canyons that consistitute its road system. Settled in a hotel from the trusty LP and set off on a walk around in town in time to miss out on the daily power cuts. Berat unlike Tirana does not have the diesel generators littering the footpath of all the shops, so when the power goes off it goes off.
Headed up to the castle for a stroll, it was pretty empty as the tourist season is well and truly over (if such a season exists in Albania) apart from a group of kids playing cards. We bought some water from a little old man missing most of his teeth and thanks to his charades (literally) he informed us that the card-playing kids were actually local drug lords.
We made a sharp exit.
