Miami is everything you could stereotypically expect, although, without the greeting of Will Smith in a pink shirt, feeling pretty let down about this still.
We noticed Miami to be very split between the riches, biggest contrast yet of the cities we've seen. Driving through the main land over the bridge into Miami Beach you can see where the people with way too much money are.
Main land Miami was the suburban area, looking like an American gangster film set; clapped out cars, run down shops, plenty of police patrolling, beggers approaching cars and with a fair few shifty looking characters hanging out. I'm sure it has its good and bad areas but we didn't hang around long enough to find out so maybe my comments unjustified.
Miami Beach; stinking hot; perfect palm tree sunsets; rollerblades; men in budgie smugglers; yachts; chiwawas in bags; expensive cars and Botox, this pretty much sums it up. Spending most of our visit at South Beach we found it somewhat pretentious and ego-tastic (the men had better skin than I've ever seen and obvs take hours making their facial hair symmetrical) but this aside an extremely cool place. One long stunning white sand warm water beach minutes away from active main avenues for shopping (mainly high end), fancy bars and expensive restaurants; plenty of money needed for here.
I would definitely like to re-visit Miami Beach, really vibrant fun place. As a holiday you could make it as crazy as you like, cocktail bars, clubs, limos everywhere, and for a more mellow visit; a beautiful beach minutes away from most hotels, or luxury outdoor pools for the sand haters and chill out bars with live music, maybe one day we will be back.
Thumbs up Miami!

Jody Will Smith came to mind for me too. Bet you were both giggling at some of the "sights" but beachside sounds fantastic x
