Hi again,
Arrived in Nanjing on 17th, as a stop en route to Beijing (we changed the route to bypass Qufu). Nanjing is lovely, a city that in parts is different to anything we've seen. A good mix of some modern with the old with everything from the random dancing in the street, to the amazing and cheap food stalls on the street and the numerous lanterns lining the river (we were too slow in working out the night mode on the camera & the lanterns were turned off before we figured it out, hence the crap dark photos:)
We met plenty of lovely people in Nanjing, however we were wondering why people kept staring at us (u would expect a bit of staring as we do look different & not many tourists here) but it seemed a bit extreme at times. We got our answer when one lady came to help us whilst looking lost and her friend prodded Als arm asking "what is?", funny apparently to Tracy (who has now named me the freckle monster), not sure if they think I am contagious!!
So with long sleeves in place (to avoid mosquito bites of course - I am proud!) we are now blending in better.
Tracy is now learning basic Chinese, due to a few language barrier issues such as trying to buy the rght phone card to call my bank... took us about 5 hours & a lot of blank faces/laughing from the locals!
We're now heading to Taishan, looks great but bloody hard work (6066 steps to the summit!), back soon.
