After your guide picks you up from your Xi'an hotel, your private tour of Xi’an begins with a short guided walk along Nan Da Jie (South Street) to Shuyuanmen Ancient Cultural Street. Walk past the intricate archway entrance and mosey along the cobbled pathways lined with shops selling various knick-knacks like jade ornaments, calligraphies, folk handicrafts and more.
Reach the park area comprised of a moat and a small-scale forest surrounding the Xi’an City Wall. Here, see locals practice morning exercises like dancing, tai chi and singing – you can even join along! Walk up the steps of the South Gate until you reach the top of the wall, where you’ll stroll along the walkway with your guide and admire views of the city below. Marvel at the complex architecture of the gates and towers on each side of the wall.
Your guide will then walk with you to the Muslim Quarter, a charming area buzzing with various exotic food stalls, souvenir shops and diverse visitors. Step inside the Great Mosque, one of the most renowned mosques in the country, featuring traditional Chinese-style architecture with sprinklings of Arabic lettering and decorations.
Visit one of the popular restaurants of the Muslim Quarter for a Chinese lunch. Afterwards, enjoy a relaxing Chinese reflexology foot massage by an expert Chinese medicine practitioner. Then, walk to a nearby tea house to see a traditional Chinese tea ceremony. Learn about the tea culture and history in China while tasting freshly brewed tea.
The final stop of your tour is just outside the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, a Buddhist pagoda built in the Tang Dynasty. Admire this 7-story brick temple that stands nearly 212 feet (65 meters) tall. Outside, see various Buddhist structures like the Dacien Temple (a temple built in 648 to honor the Empress Wende) and the statue of the monk Xuanzang. Your tour will end here.
