Experience the majesty of Kakadu National Park and the beauty of Katherine Gorge on this 3-day tour from Darwin. See the ancient Aboriginal rock art, hear the myths and legends of the outback and enjoy a sunset dinner cruise on the Katherine Gorge. Choose from hotel accommodation or for a unique experience, stay a night at the the Hawks Dreaming Wilderness Camp

Day 1. Kakadu National Park, Ubirr Art Site, Guluyambi Cruise (L)
Depart Darwin and journey by 4WD to World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park. Visit Ubirr, the outback version of an art gallery, with its ancient rock art painted over a series of caves and cliff faces. Enjoy lunch in a bush setting before joining an Aboriginal guide for the Guluyambi cruise on the East Alligator River. As you glide along the tranquil waters, learn of the flora, fauna, Aboriginal mythology and history of the region from your guide.
Overnight: Gagudju Crocodile Holiday Inn or Hawk Dreaming Wilderness Camp

Day 2. Nourlangie Rock, Pine Creek, Katherine Gorge Sunset Dinner Cruise (B,D)
Visit Bowali Visitor Centre to gain insight into the flora and fauna found within the park. Travel to Nourlangie Rock, another important site in the history of Aboriginal culture and art before traveling on to Pine Creek for lunch (own expense). Later visit the tourist town of Katherine before boarding your boat for a sunset cruise through the Katherine Gorge, inlcuding a three-course buffet dinner.

Day 3. Litchfield National Park, Florence Falls, Wangi Falls, Darwin (B)
Depart Katherine and travel to the Adelaide River War Cemetery, the resting place for many World War 2 soldiers and civilians killed in the 1942 air raids on Darwin. Continue on to Litchfield National Park, stopping to view the termite mounds, some standing well over two metres tall. See the picturesque double waterfall that forms Florence Falls, surrounded by lush rainforest. Stop for lunch (own expense), then travel to the rock pool at Wangi Falls to enjoy a refreshing swim or nature walk.

We have a wide range of tours designed to give you an insight into the destination you're travelling in and there is something for everybody. The culture shock ratings considers the destination visited, transport used, activities undertaken and that "Wow, I'm really not at home now!" factor. While generalisations are always tricky, a summary of our gradings is as follows…

Sites visited are usually iconic sites, tours can also include market visits, visits to communities etc that provide the traveller with a fantastic insight into destination.

Expect to rough it for parts of this tour, whether it's a packed public bus where you are forced to stand, a visit to a local market, a local community, you are sure to have an experience that is very different from what you're used to at home.
