Kathmandu, Nepal
Hey!! well the first Platform2 group in Nepal (makes it that extra bit special) also means everythings not just new for us but new for everybody! Where now in our 9th week so one more week left, i'd be a liar if i didnt say im looking foward to going home but i'll miss this place and the Nepali life also my amazing Nepali family!
The response to us has been great they have been so welcoming and helpful ok we do get a lot of stares but thats expected. if i had of wrote this blog on my first day in the village i would of told said how scared and anxious i was but now i feel i have made a second home and have another family. Being in a home stay has been great it has helped me learn so much more and live a real Nepali life including eating ridiculas ammounts of rice!
As you should know where building a secondary school out here and Oh My God its hard work! haha well thats just my opinion as manual labour is not my strong point to say the least! The work has got easier and the muscles are increasing my clothes no longer fit me which is a bit of a problem ha! we have managed to complete a foundation wall it took a long time and plenty of strugles along the way but we have done it!
Its now raining outside the monsoons have finally come, 2 months late this has caused lots of problems for Nepali people as they have to plant their rice and their crops have to grow. when my family told me i got so worried for them and for once in my life wished it to rain. When i seen the rain fall and how happy the people where it was amazing they was all rushing out so busy planting rice, when nodbody would dream of going outside in rains like that back home haha! This has most defently opened my eyes to climate change as my Didi (sister) told me due to the short ammount of mosoon weaher they will get much less rice than usual also fruit and vegtables have now increased in price.
Im most certinally going to miss how laid back the Nepali life is everything is so chilled its like they dont have a stress in the world such a great way to live i think i should teach some of my family in UK how to live like this as everybody seems so happy! Another thing ill miss about Nepal is it's natural beauty all the amazing scenery, we visted Chitwan in our 5th week and it was so beautiful one of the most memorable moments of my life riding an elephant through the jungle i mean how cool is that!
Just to think 9 weeks ago i never knew anything about Nepal and i have learnt so much about their culture, geogrpahy and history. This experience has also made me learn so much about myself and without platform2 i would never of got the chance to live another life like i have and i cannot explain how lucky i feel. So thank you Platform2!
