First day of Kuala Lumpur was fairly quiet as we had a 6 hour bus journey there from Penang. It was a little strange when approaching the city in the bus as it is a modern city, not a sight we had seen for a while. Once we had taken 2 underground LRT trains (Light Railway Trains) , it was not easy finding Suzie's Guesthouse because Google maps had only given us a general location and it turned out to be on the first floor of a building so only a single glass door at floor level to identify it. Spent the evening roaming around China Town.
I think there must have been some sort of bug in our room with us last night as I woke up in the morning with several bites on me. Anyway we wanted to do the main tourist attraction on our first day here, the Petronas Twin Towers. Again we took the LRT up to Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC), where the Towers are located. The public transport in KL is very extensive, almost everywhere can be reached by the LRT or MRT (monorail). As we rose from under the ground the buildings really amazed me. They stand so tall and proud above everything in their vicinity. We entered the lobby to join the queue to buy a ticket for the bridge and top. Our allotted time was 11am so this gave us a couple of hours to have a look around KLCC and the shopping mall under the towers. I thought we had a good view from the bridge between the towers but the top was incredible. Gave us a 360 degree view of Kuala Lumpur. From the bridge we could look through the windows of offices where people were at work. Can't believe that some people have that sort of view from the work desk! After getting Zo another ring, one that she could wear on her finger as well as the one on her necklace, we had a look around before going back to the hostel to chill out. We spent the evening in Little India for another curry. Zo treated herself to some highlights in her hair at one of the hairdressers in central market.
Just over the river from where we were staying was a park with an orchid garden, lake garden, bird park, etc. So we decided to have a walk around here in the morning. It is on high ground so also offered good views of the city. We brought a postcard from a gentleman here who told us his desire to go to the UK and then listed a few places in particular he wanted to see. Judging from the amount of places on his list that we have been too, it definitely seems we need to travel around our own country a bit more! We wanted to take a trip on the monorail system to get a quick look at a lot of the city in one go. We walked to the station but it is very safe to say that we did not go the right way. We ended up walking up the side of a 3 lane highway and had to take the slip round to get off of it looking out for the cars! We got off the monorail at Times Square which is a huge shopping mall. We were able to get a bus ticket here for Singapore for the following day.
