It was lovely to just get on the plane and arrive in Pakse after only a few hours from leaving Vietiane. The hotel arranged a pick up service so it was also good not having to worry about the hassle of getting a tuk tuk and bartering over the price to get to the hotel. As we arrived early our room wasn't ready and the hotel was part of a coffee shop so we decided to have a drink and some lunch then have a walk around the village. From first sight being in Loas it had that French feel but as we started walking around everything was closed up, there were shutters on all the doors and no sign of life, bearing in mind it was very hot so we was just thought everyone was staying out of the sun. We walked back to the hotel and was shown to our room which was beautiful. It was all decorated in white with dark wood furniture and had that colonial feel to it, there was a small balcony with views of the river and mountains. We had a rest and had hoped by later this evening when we went out for dinner we would see some life but this wasn't so, Pakse was like a ghost town we must have walked around for about half and hour and there was nobody about. We found a decent looking restaurant which had a few people in it and enjoyed a beer lao and tasty meal. There was no people watching in this place for sure. So we chatted about what our next move was going to be, did we want to stay in Pakse and do the tours to 4000 islands and visit the plane of jars or head back to Thailand. Our hotel was not particularly cheap and by looking around there really wasn't much choice so we decided the next morning we would check out and travel back to Thailand. The next morning we had breakfast in beautiful room the setting was lovely and overlooked Pakse. Sadly there is not much more we have to say about it as we went and booked a bus ticket and left Pakse for Ubon Ratchathani. Maybe we could have hired bikes and looked around the countryside but there wasn't anywhere to hire them from.
