Hello! Well thought while we had a bit of spare time we ought to catch up on here!! So after having the helm at New Zealand tractors for the last few weeks while Grant was away, moving deer irrigator and working away in the work shop, the end of Febuary arrived. On the final week there was a job to do over on the west coast at Fox Glacier 6 hours away, so different to my usual style Grant told me i had to stop over there and not try do it all in a day! So i loaded the little car upwith fuel tools overalls, and Anna and we set sail to Fox over the Arthers pass road! We set off at 8am sunday and made good time arriving at 2pm it was short of 500km drive. Unfortunately when we got there it was raining something the west coast is famous for! It turned out there was 60mm in the two days we were there but the weekend before there was ten and a half inches!!!! So we donned our raincoats and went for a walk road the town, but unfortunatley the Glaciers were closed because of the weather. But luckily our hotel room was really smart and had sky so we made good use of the discovery channel! We had tea in Chase and Saddle pub that night which was really good then called it a night. Next day we went to the farm to do the job and i soon had the problem sorted. The farm was being developed into a new diary farm so Kerry the owner was more then welcome to show us round, and has also invited us back too see the farm when its finished around june!Anna also made two new friends, two border collie pups Bob and Sue!
So the remainder of the last week went really quick, trying to get of stuff together and plan what we were going to do next and before we knew it it was saturday morning. So we loaded up the cars and said goodbye to our brilliant hosts, Grant and Anthea and set off for Wanaka stopping for dinner at Twizel.
So mid afternoon we arrived in Wanaka checked in for our room in the Purple Cow and went for a tour of the town. Then the remainder of the night we spent in the pub rounding of the day and sampling some of the local brew! On Sunday we jumped in the car and went up to the Wanaka Toy and Transport museum, to be fair it was nothing to look at but once we were in it turned out to be really good think even Anna might have been vaughly intrested he he! There was a pedal powered car so we took it for a ride round, there was also loads of planes tractors cars bike and toys!! So once Anna has got me out of the built in toy shop fullof model tractors, we went accross the road to the mini golf which to be fair was crap! But its was quite funny when i lauched the ball straight into the water and had to get it back out and it was only 8 dollars! So on the way back to town we called into Puzzle world, this was really good full of allsorts of opitcal iilusions and Annas sense of direction really helped out in the maze and we were there most of the afternoon negotiating our way out!! Sunday night was a bit of a quiet one.
Monday morning we were up bright and early and down to the outdoor shop in town to meet the alpine shuttle which was taking us Canyoning so we jumped on the bus and headed off somewhere off in to the hills. We were each given a wetsuit and a climbing harness and set off up the canyon side. This was about a40 minute walk and when we reached the top we more a less hit the ground running and absailed down straight into the canyon which was good me been experienced in outdoor pursuits and all that!! So we then spent the rest of the day absailing, sliding and generally slipping and scrabbling down a canyon, which did rather question mne confidence of hieghts, some of the waterfalls were around 60 feet high!!!! So this took about four hours and then we all had dinner in the woods at the end, it worked out to be a good day. Tuesday Anna unbeknow to her mum was suppose to be doing a skydive, unfortunatley i'm on the wight limit for it such a shame i must say!! But unfortunately the weather pursponned this at the last minute so we spent the day just generally chilling out and puttin the nearly 300 photos on the net!! So wedensday we had a bit of a staedy morning, but then that afternoon we went out horse trecking into the hills above Wanaka this was really good although at one point mine and Anna's horses which apparently were dating had a bit of a tiff Anna set off round in circles and mine shot of up the hill! Liuckily i managed to stop it, all those drunken nights on bucking bronkos' must have paided off at last! Also Anna's horse seemed to have a really bad wind problem which was really funny!! So we made it back anyway and that night paided a visit to the Wanaka cinema. Well what can i say the cinema was great there were no seats just loads of olds sofas and even an old moggy minor to sit in and they made all there own food i sampled a few of the home made cookies! We watched the film Austrailia which turned out to be quite fitting after our horse riding experience!
So that brings us back up to date really Anna has done her sky dive this morning and is sat here beside me nice and safe although craving an apple!! An we are just having a nice relaxed day again. We are hoping to go to the Wanaka Country Show on saturday and then we are heading of south to start out new job on a diary farm! So watch this space!! Hope your all well and surving the snow and resesion!!!
