I made it. I guess I'm really staying here. After arriving in Amsterdam and having a bit of confusion as to who and how we were getting picked up, we were quickly wisked away to the 'village' (more like city) of Schoorl. Unfortunately I don't remember very much of the things I learnt yesterday as a result of my lack of sleep. Needless to say, I had a great sleep and was ready for the day today. In the afternoon our assigned man Erik took us to sand dunes and the North Sea. We rode our bikes through the forest for about 20 minutes and came upon what looked like a hilly field, which apparently are the dunes. After parking and locking up our bikes (mine was waay better than the guys'. Mine actually had gears and brakes, which is probably because it was a woman's bike and women apparently are weak), we climbed over an electric fence and walked through the dunes to a very small body of water. It was probably the size of two city lots. Erik explained to us that this was their lake that Holland was famous for. I didn't quite understand why. We continued biking to the sea where people were surfing and children found it extremely appropriate to throw shovels full of sand into the wind and cover us in it. There we were treated to a drink and an explaination of the land and then continued on our way to another small village. On the way I was almost hit by a car twice. We stopped for ice cream when we arrived back in Schoorl and went to see a giant dune where, every year on the second day of pentacost, males bring lots of beer up and start to party and then girls join them and they find their 'mate' (as we were told). Interesting.
Meals are always interesting because we only ever know what a few of the things being served to us are. Tonight we had what we thought was chicken cordon blue but I'm pretty sure that wasn't what it was. Another interesting thing is that no one that works here actually addresses us by our names, when we're wanted they say, "trainee!" and then continue giving directions. That's all I have to say. Cheerio.
