Travel to Kanchanaburi - sleep off Chang over!
Sunday 1st of March
Spent today trekking at the stunning Erawan Falls. There are 7 tiers to the waterfall and various pools along the way suitable for swimming in and sliding off the rocks, much needed when you have been hiking through the jungle in 36degree heat!! There jungle is apparently festooned with monkeys, unfortunately we didn't see any...Adam was very dissapointed but perked up a bit when a friend who had walked up behind us met us for lunch and reported being attacked by monkeys!!! Actually she was terrified and very upset but did agree once she had calmed down that iy was a cool story to tell the Grandkids. Fortunately she wasn't to badly hurt just a few scratches and very shaken up. Spent the afternoon at the Death railway, the Bridge over the River Kwai including a train ride on said Death Railway. Had a great giode - Anda, not very knowledgable but great fun!!
Monday 2nd of March
We spent this afternoon at the famous Tiger Temple getting very up close and personal with tigers of all ages. Adam was besotted by all of them as was I but unfortunately I had a lot of ethical issues with being there (hence the not very flattering pics) and was very unimpressed with how they portrayed themselves and what goes on there. None the less it was still an amazing ezperience and I at least got to judge for myself. The pics tell the rest I guess.
Tues 3rd March
Went with our friend Paul to the Death Railway and WW2 Museum (spelt everywhere as "Jeath"). It was absolutely hilarious, a museum but Thai style with tons of conflicting and incorrect information from all era's with very brief descriptions EG there was a wireless exhibit simply entitled "old radio", art deco alarm clocks apparently belnging to POW's from the death railway and hilarious dummies with arms longer than there legs depicting various scenes of carnage. Well worth the 40baht just for the laugh it gave us. Can't possibly put into words how ridculous it was! But Great fun and the site of the original "Bridge over the River Kwai".
Spent the evening with an awesome group of friends, 3 chang towers, a bottle of samsong whisky, dirty rice whisky , numerous bottles of 7/11 large changs and super fun, super silly drinking games (got our guide from Sundays trek well and truly trashed and taught him lots of "english traditions")
Wed 4th March
Bus from Kanchanaburi back to bangkok, thankfully not untill 5.30pm, then the night train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.
