Arrived in Bali on Thursday and headed to Kuta, for a couple of days before heading to some of the more idyllic spots.
Our hotel was AMAZING. For £33 i was expecting a basic hotel but it was a little boutique hotel hidden down some side roads. We had our own little bungalow with veranda and outside bathroom (with full bathroom suite, see pic!). There was a lovely garden with pool area, bar and poolside spa area, heaven!
We had our welcome drink and lunch in the pool bar and then went for a walk around. Kuta is the party town of Bali and is full if shops, bars and clubs, not the prettiest, but i was very excited at the prospect of shopping so i could overlook the overdevelopment!
We went to watch the sun set by the beach although headed off before it set as it started to rain. The beach isn't white sand and rammed with people, not great. We had a few drinks in town and some dinner. I had an amazing tom yum style soup where you get a kind of soy and chilli sauce to add in if you like it spicy, it nearly blew my head off, so of course I put most if it in my soup!
As our hotel was so nice we decided to stay an extra night and spent Friday laying by the pool. I got a pedicure for £3.50 on the poolside with one member of staff for each foot! It was so nice to laze around and read my book for most of the day as we've been doing a lot of trekking around lately so this feels like we're on a real holiday. I spent most of the day moving between the sun lounger and the pool with my book, it was tough.
When we realised that I was overcooked we decided to head into town (at which point i was glowing like i was radioactive). We got lost (again!) and spent ages looking for the travel shop to book our trip to the Gili islands. After we eventually found it we went for Tom Yum and a few drinks. We also spent ages looking round the shops where Robin bought a watch which i am sure will break within a week.
We also went to see the memorial for the Ball bombings, it seems strange that terrorists would attack such a laid back little island, hard to imagine what it was like.
We watched a film (just go with it) in one of the bars and then of course got lost again on the way home and had an earlyish night in preparation for our 6.30am bus to the boat for Gili Trawangan.
