After Mancora I headed with the Americans down the coast to a place called Hanchaco. We arrived at about 2am after having to get 3 different buses and it all being a bit of a nightmare.
Huanchaco was quite quiet. Still on the coast so went in the sea a bit but was much colder than furthur north. Everyone was feeling a bit unwell so we didnt stay here long.
Myself and one of the americans than headed down to Lima. This place was ok but Im not so keen on the cities and prefer much smaller places. I had a little look around but not in great detail. This was where I had planned to find my travel agents Lima office and see if I could delay my flight by 5 weeks, sadly no seats are available so I have to stick with the original plan and fly out of Buenos Aires on December 8th. This has annoyed me because I dont think I can see eveything I wanted to now and am feeling rushed! Theres so much to do and now Im limited.
Anyway after Lima I went with a couple of Irish guys (one called James Ellis) to Huacachina, south of Lima. This is an Oasis in the middle of the desert. It was a really cool place and the hostel had a swimming pool. Here I booked to go on a dune buggy ride which was much like a rollercoaster over sand. The driver was crazy and we got some mad air time over some of the dunes! Pretty scary at times but I really enjoyed it! We also tried out sandboarding. Most people went down on their fronts and the board looks just like a snowboard. This was absolutely brilliant!!! The sand dunes were really high and really steep and you picked up so much speed! It scaed me at some points but that only fuelled me with more adrenaline! Was one of the best things Ive done on the trip so far.
After the desert we wanted to get a bus to Cuzco, 17 hours away. Id met back up0 with one of the americans from the coast and we met 2 kiwi girls. Since the bus journey was so long we were going to treat ourselves to some comfort and pay quite a bit for it. Sadly all the buses were full so we were left with a shockingly bad bus which by the end of the 17 hours I was ready to kill someone. Nightmare journey, but great sceneary over the mountains!
Cuzco up next....
