We arrived in Siem reap after a very long and eventful journey from Vientian in laos across the cambodian boarder. We travelled overnight donw to Pakes from Vientiane and arrived at 7 in the morning of the 24th I think. Got straight on a bus heading south acorss the4 boarder and included a series of 'connections' to the town of bla bla bla in Cambodia when we were to stay the night and then head on up to Sien Reap the next day.
Well on the bus form Pakes our bus broke down steam and everything was coming out of holes underneath in places where no bus should have holes, and deffinetly not smoke and steam coming out. We had one very sick bus and waited an hour for a glorified tuk tuk to take its place and continue our journey. by the time we got to the boarder there were just four of us myslef and Becky, and Australian lady (older) with here toy boy (or not) bit of stuff who was called Astin and have a bit of a temper and was from Cote de Ivory in Africa. Basically he had to bribed the Laos guards to let him through without being arrested as hge had overstayed on his visa in laos for 2 months! They wanted $300! or he would be arrested - he kicked off but finally after searching him and finding he didn't have any mroe money his aussie mail order bride paid his fees!
We travelled on donw a dirt track to the cambodian side of the boarder, oh this is all in a salon car with ten people in by the way 4 of us in ther back + luggage and 6 locals and kids and I wouldn't be surprised if there was the odd goat or chicken lurkingabout! Basically the Cambodians fanyed around for an hour deciding weather to let himn in or not because he was black and they wanted him to prove how much cash he had on him. I didn't know that life was so bad in Cote de Ivory that you had to become an economic migrant and go and poach of the 'society' halfway around the world in Cambodia! They let him through eventually after the acused him of having a fake passport and got him to prove his signature.
We arrived in treng to late to get our last bus so were stuck there for the night whcih wasn't so bad after all the traveling. Had the lushest Amok Fish curry whcih is a typical Khamer dish!
Arrived in Siem Reap next eveing and checked into great little guesth house. Saw the sunset do down over Anchor from one fo the temples. Next day we 'chartered' a tuktuk to take us around Anchoir wat and the toher temples. Saw about 15 in one day they were all amazing but especially Anchor wat and othert such as the tomb raider temples where good old plastic lips Angelina Jolie stared in Tombe raider. Also went to the elephant temple and lepord and a whole hoast of other ones which i can't remember. photos to follow asap.
