Cruising the Mississippi River aboard the Natchez Steam Boat was like taking a cruise down memory lane. The jazz band, 'Dukes of Dixieland', played on the top deck while we sat at tables sipping drinks. Toes were tapping, hands were clapping, and all were having a great time.
It was a balmy evening, a bit humid, but once the Natchez started moving, the gentle breeze cooled us off. It was as close as it comes to being a perfect evening, as the sun set on the Mississippi and the lights of New Orleans lit the river banks, this was a night to remember.
Not far from the dock at New Orleans, the Mississippi River is at her deepest along her 2200 mile journey from Philadelphia to Gulf of Mexico, some 213 feet. Muddy through silt, expansive borders, changing currents and depths, this river is one of the greatest. I saw plenty of ships docked on the banks, whilst many more were transporting their cargo up and down the river. This river still remains a major transport hub for those who live near her.
Our dinner in the dining room was very good. White table clothes, drinks, and excellent food for a buffet. I enjoyed the best roast pork I had had for years, as well as, a range of local dishes. The bread pudding for desert could not be totally consumed, simply no room left!
After 3 hours on the Natchez it was time to disembark and walk back to JWMarriott. A great cruise and dinner on the Mississippi River.
