So everyone, today is the day when i fly out of South America to New Zealand.
When i first got to South America about 3 months ago, i was a bit dubious to say the least. I arrived into Lima in the early hours, and when i got to my hostel, it was full of Spanish speaking people. Obviously this was going to be the case, but it was a bit of a shock to the system, as i have, well had absolutely zero spanish in me. So the first few days were spent doing sod all, just contemplating why i had decided to go to South America!
Anyway, a day later, i headed over to Cusco, and ever since staying there, my trip in South America could not have been better. I've seen some amazing sites, that im pretty sure will not exist anywhere else in the world. I've done the trail of the Sacred Inkas, and ended up at the truely awesome ruins of Machu Pichu.....over christmas also, which definately added to the whole atmosphere, spent new year in the craziest place on the planet, Cusco. Visited the highest navigable lake in the world, Lake Titicaca
Then there was Bolivia.... I visited the worlds biggest Salt Flats in Uyuni, biked the worlds most dangerous road in La Paz, seen dinosaur footprints in Sucre, and chucked myself down the silver mines in Potosi
Then there was the scenery in Argentina, the scenery of the lake district, with the picture postcard town of Bariloche, seen the amazing glacier in Calafate, visited the immense city of Buenos Aires, and the steak, oh the steak.....what a country!
I've visited the world famous carnival in Rio, which as your would guess was the craziest week i have ever had in my life! Then gone to relax on a pristinely clean island of Ihla Grande, and seen some of the biggest, and best waterfalls in the world at the Iguazu Falls, and the sheer immense force of the Itaipu Hydro-electric plant in Brasil!
So all in all, i have had the best 3 months in south america i think i could have, the only problem for me now is having to leave it. I still havent done anywhere near everything i wanted to. I didnt get to go down to Usuhaia (the most southerly town in the world), visit the Torres Del Paine in Chile, and pretty much missed out the whole northern bit of south america, but whats the benefit of not doing them???.....it gives me a reason to come back here again someday, and see what i missed!
So to wrap it all up, if anyone is thinking of going travelling, or is currently travelling, and hasnt put S.America on the agenda, then DO! if you dont, you will be missing out, it is an amazing place, and with it being such a large place, and boy is it big, there is that much to see and do, you could easily absorb yourself in the culture for months on end!
Thanks to all the people who i met along the way, which made the trip that much more amazing! I will be keeping in touch with you, and if your ever about in england, then give me a shout, and a few drinks will be in order! Cheers guys
NEW ZEALAND HERE I COME!!................
